From October 28 to November 3, the Latin American Program (LAP) of the Auschwitz Institute visited El Salvador as part of the Prevention of Atrocities during the Latin American Migration Crisis - El Salvador project. On November 1, 2022, AIPG held a meeting to present the Diagnosis Report of the Situation of Communities in Human Mobility in El Salvador, in the city of San Miguel. The event welcomed the participation of 24 representatives of civil society organizations from various localities (San Miguel, Metapán, Santa Ana, and La Unión), representatives from the Office of the Ombudsperson of El Salvador (PDDH) School of Human Rights, and the PDDH San Miguel. During the meeting, participants discussed potential activities to develop in the next project phase in 2023. Throughout the visit, the LAP team held in-person meetings with government and civil society representatives, such as the Ombudsman of El Salvador, the Director of the School of Human Rights of the PDDH, and the focal point of the General Secretariat of the Central American Integration System (SICA) and the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR). The travel agenda included visits to the Monument of Memory and Truth and the Museo de la Palabra y la Imagen (MUPI, where the Director of MUPI received the LAP team and provided an overview of the museum’s programmatic activities. These activities include the development of workshops with the accompaniment of teachers, students, doctors, researchers, and the local population for the dissemination of knowledge and the strengthening of collective memory. The LAP team later toured the Monument of Memory and Truth, which was built by local civil society organizations to honor the victims of armed conflicts between 1980 and 1991. These working meetings and visits help create and strengthen new and lasting commitments and support on AIPG's work with partners in El Salvador.
Del 28 de octubre al 3 de noviembre, el Programa Latinoamericano (LAP) del Instituto Auschwitz visitó El Salvador como parte del proyecto Prevención de Atrocidades durante la Crisis Migratoria Latinoamericana – El Salvador.
El 1 de noviembre de 2022, AIPG realizó una reunión para presentar el Informe de Diagnóstico de situación de comunidades en movilidad humana en El Salvador, en la ciudad de San Miguel. El evento contó con la participación de 24 representantes de organizaciones de la sociedad civil de varias localidades (San Miguel, Metapán, Santa Ana y La Unión), así como de representantes de la Escuela de Derechos Humanos de la Procuraduría para la Defensa de los Derechos Humanos de El Salvador (PDDH) y de la PDDH San Miguel. Durante la reunión, los participantes discutieron las posibles actividades a desarrollar en la siguiente fase del proyecto en 2023. Durante la visita, el equipo de LAP sostuvo reuniones presenciales con representantes del gobierno y de la sociedad civil, como el Defensor del Pueblo de El Salvador, el Director de la Escuela de Derechos Humanos de la Procuraduría de los Derechos Humanos de El Salvador (PDDH), y el punto focal de la Secretaría General del Sistema de Integración Centroamericana (SICA) y la Agencia de la ONU para los Refugiados (ACNUR).
La agenda de viaje incluyó visitas al Monumento de la Memoria y la Verdad y al Museo de la Palabra y la Imagen (MUPI, donde el Director del MUPI recibió al equipo de LAP y ofreció una visión general de las actividades programáticas del museo. Estas actividades incluyen el desarrollo de talleres con el acompañamiento de profesores, estudiantes, médicos, investigadores y la población local para la difusión del conocimiento y el fortalecimiento de la memoria colectiva. Posteriormente, el equipo de LAP recorrió el Monumento a la Memoria y la Verdad, construido por organizaciones de la sociedad civil local para honrar a las víctimas de los conflictos armados entre 1980 y 1991.
Estas reuniones de trabajo y visitas ayudan a crear y fortalecer nuevos y duraderos compromisos y apoyos en el trabajo de AIPG con sus socios en El Salvador.
