From September 19 to 24, the Auschwitz Institute’s Latin America Program, in partnership with the Office of the Prosecutor for the Defense of Human Rights (PDDH), held four consultative workshops in El Salvador on atrocity prevention for migrants.
The workshops carried out within the framework of the project entitled 'Prevention of Mass Atrocities in the Context of the Migration Crisis in El Salvador' focused on identifying the tools necessary to prevent the risk of mass atrocities for migrant returnees in El Salvador. The activities were attended by Salvadoran migrants returning to the country, representatives of local civil society organizations, and public officials from the School of Human Rights of the PDDH.
Given the vulnerabilities and risks identified in the 2022 Diagnostic Report, the workshops addressed some of the risks involved in migrating and their intersection with issues related to gender diversity and sexuality. In order to broaden the scope of these activities, they were held in three cities in the interior of El Salvador: San Miguel, Comasagua, and Suchitoto.
These workshops helped identify the need to generate practical information on the rights of migrants, as well as on how to migrate safely.
Del 19 al 24 de septiembre, el Programa para América Latina (AIPG) del Instituto Auschwitz para la Prevención del Genocidio y Atrocidades Masivas (AIPG), en alianza con la Procuraduria para la Defensa de los Derechos Humanos de El Salvador (PDDH), organizó cuatro talleres consultivos en El Salvador sobre prevención de atrocidades para personas migrantes.
Los talleres, formaron parte del proyecto ‘Prevención de Atrocidades Masivas en el Contexto de la Crisis Migratoria en El Salvador’, y se enfocaron en la identificación de las herramientas necesarias para la prevención de riesgos de atrocidades masivas para las personas migrantes que han vuelto a El Salvador. En las actividades participaron migrantes salvadoreñxs retornadxs al país, representantes de organizaciones de la sociedad civil locales y funcionarixs públicos de la Escuela de Derechos Humanos de la PDDH.
Debido a las vulnerabilidades y riesgos identificados en el Informe Diagnóstico de 2022, durante los talleres se abordaron algunos de los riesgos que conlleva migrar, así como su intersección con temáticas relacionadas con la diversidad de género y sexualidad. En este sentido, y para ampliar el alcance de estas actividades, las mismas fueron realizadas en tres ciudades del interior de El Salvador: San Miguel, Comasagua y Suchitoto.
Estas jornadas contribuyeron a identificar la necesidad de generación de información práctica sobre los derechos de las personas migrantes, así como también sobre cómo migrar de manera segura.
