Regional Development Officer, Mediterranean Basin Programs

Shejla Fidani

Shejla Fidani joined the Auschwitz Institute in May 2023. As Regional Development Officer, she supports AIPG’s Mediterranean Basin Programs team in its fundraising endeavors, with a particular focus on AIPG’s Roma program. Her role involved providing guidance to governments on Roma integration and relevant mainstream policies, analyzing socio-economic policies, sector reforms, and public budgeting in the Western Balkans and Turkey. Through her work for the Open Society Foundations (OSF) in Budapest and Berlin, she contributed significantly to the development of the civil society sector in Europe. She advocated for putting Roma policies high on the EU Commission’s agenda, leading to equality and governance accountability regarding Roma integration, and developing national policies that advance EU accession processes and the effective absorption of EU funds throughout Central Eastern and South Eastern Europe. Shejla is the author of several research studies on mainstreaming Roma integration and journal articles on minorities inclusion and human rights in Europe. She holds a BA in Communication Sciences from the South Eastern European Institute Macedonia, a journalist diploma from the Macedonian Institute for Media, and a specialization in institutional communication and assertiveness from the Learning Tree Center in New York and London.
