Presentation of the REPAIR Program for US Law Enforcement

On April 20, 2023, Dr.Tibi Galis, AIPG'S Executive Director, and Duaa Randhawa, Online Education Programs Associate, were welcomed by Alan Boyd, Assistant Director for Professional Development & Training and Matthew Graves, the United States Attorney for the District of Columbia to present on the REPAIR program US Law Enforcement at the monthly Law Enforcement Task Force Meeting held at the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Washington DC.

Shelia Miller Executive Assistant, US Attorney’s Office

The monthly task force meeting welcomes 25-50 executive officers and agents in person and virtually from all of the local, federal, and D.C. law enforcement agencies. The presentation, which is included below, provided an overview of the REPAIR program and its different components, including the REPAIR Leadership course, the Training of Trainers, and the Trauma-Informed Policing Course, as well as a brief walkthrough of both courses on our online platform: Canvas.

The course uses the lessons learned from the field of atrocity prevention to:

  • Help build capacity in our law enforcement partners to detect relevant risk factors for civil and human rights abuses.
  • Identify appropriate response tools to promote and protect those rights.
  • Develop best practices to foster resilience in targeted communities.

The presentation was well received by the Law Enforcement Task Force Meeting participants that attended in person and through Webex and we hope that it will lead to opportunities to introduce the REPAIR program into more police departments.  The team hosting the meeting will forward the PowerPoint presentation and the REPAIR team’s contact information to their task force members, which will lead to follow-up requests for additional information on the program.
